Lakes Center for Youth & Families accepts both undergraduate and graduate students for a variety of internships. Whether you have 10 hours of service learning to do or a 500 hour practicum, we can help! Students majoring in sociology, criminal justice, psychology, social work, marketing, chemical dependency and many more have found LC4YF to be a rewarding internship site.
We offer you opportunities to work with Community Justice, Parent Education and Youth Enrichment. You will be encouraged to participate in all of our programming. LC4YF will provide screening, training and support to guarantee you have the tools needed for a successful experience. We also have supervision and weekly check-ins on the progress you are making as well as to discuss concerns you may have.

Masters Level Intern
Brief description of program:
The Youth & Family Counselor is a skills-based, therapeutic, and educational position that assists our clientele with becoming as independent, adjusted, insightful and functioning as possible, through the stabilization of their mental health symptoms and through acquiring skills. We are looking for individuals whom are confident in their desire to serve our local youth and work well in a team setting.
Lakes Center for Youth & Families (LC4YF) is seeking a masters level intern to join our Direct-Service Team. Work with adolescents and their families in our service area. Provide counseling services and participate in the development and building of the counseling program.
Youth are our primary focus and clientele. Here at LC4YF we service youth between the ages of 10-18 and their families to create strength, skills, and facilitate space for change.
Internship Requirements and Information:
Our Counselors are expected to take on a small case-load of clients, whom they meet with weekly for a minimum of 40 minutes. Such sessions may include: On-site sessions,, family sessions, individual youth sessions, and parent consultations. In addition Counselors are expected to attend staff and team meetings, attend individual supervision with their assigned supervisor weekly, and facilitate Parent Support Meetings, as well as other tasks (administrative tasks and enrichment tasks) that may present themselves within the program. Counselor’s case-loads consist of youth participating in our Diversion and Therapeutic programs:
RSP: Reasoning Skills Program
REACH: Recognizing Exploring Anger, Conflict and Hope (Anger Awareness Program)
12 & Under: Our Reasoning Skills Program for youth 12 and under
Individual youth or family counseling
Initial training is provided by LC4YF and consists of 2weeks of shadowing, training, and team orientation.
- Master’s Degree in Counseling in progress required
- Prefer 3 years of experience working with youth and families in a mental health or related setting.
- Prefer 6 month commitment; 4 month minimum
- Work minimum two evenings per week. More hours available.
